Summer Academies

The 22nd Summer Academy of Euracademy Association was held in Nea Makri, Greece, from 16th to 20th June 2024, and included the Final Conference of the GOODFOOD Project (“Education to become responsible food consumers” Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership). This comprehensive report provides an overview of the program, learning methods, outcomes, and evaluation of the event.

The 21st (Winter) Academy, took place in Karditsa, Greece from 26th to 30th November 2023 in cooperation with the University of Thessaly, Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design in the context of the CO-GREEN project. The theme was: How can we train Green activators to engage citizens and communities in discussing climate and green.

The 20th Summer Academy took place in Gyor, Hungary from 27 to 31 August 2023, in cooperation with Széchenyi István University, on the theme of “Changing farming practices to
address the climate crisis.”

The 19th Summer Academy ‘’Regenerative Agriculture. A bold step towards sustainability” aims to explore how Regenerative Agriculture practices can be introduced and sustained by landowners and rural communities. This academy took place online between 7th and 9th September 2021.

The 18th Summer Academy of Euracademy Association took place in Győr, Hungary, on 2-7 September 2019.
The theme of the Summer Academy was “Community Supported Agriculture: Commitment to Sustainable Rural Development”.

The 17th Summer Academy of Euracademy Association took place in Tartu – Estonia, on 16-21 September 2018. The theme of the Summer Academy was “Creating innovation and smart solutions for sustainable rural development”.

16th Summer Academy 
Euracademy Association and the South and East Cork Area Development Partnership organized the 16th Summer Academy entitled “Resilient communities: pillars of sustainable rural development”.

15th Summer Academy,“Social Economy and Sustainable Rural Development,, Euracademy Association, in cooperation with the Development Agency of Karditsa, organised its 15th Summer Academy (SA) from 16th July – 23rd July 2016, welcoming participants from all over Europe interested in the field of rural development. This year we particularly welcomed managers and staff of social enterprises and co-operative based in rural areas.

The 14th Summer Academy, entitled “Rural NGOs: Catalysts of Social Cohesion and Sustainable Development” took place from 5th – 13th September 2015 in Kalamata, Greece, and the surrounding area. The academy brought together Greek NGOs active in rural areas to network, exchange experiences with other EU NGOs and rural development experts, and receive guidance in order to build further their capacity to contribute to sustainable rural development and social cohesion in their respective areas.

The 13th Summer Academy was organised by the Euracademy Association in cooperation with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on the theme “Volunteering and Sustainable Rural Development” and took place from 13th-21st July 2014 in Szombathely, Hungary. Over 40 people from 11 EU countries attended  the Academy, as well as one participant from Turkey.

The 12th Summer Academy was organised by the Euracademy Association in cooperation with the Notranjski Ekološki Center, on the theme “The cultural and creative industries a challenge for sustainable rural development” and took place on 13th-21st July 2013 in Loški potok, Slovenia. The Academy brought together 40 people from 13 European countries.

The 11th Summer Academy , was organised by the Euracademy Association in cooperation with the Estonian University of Life Sciences, on the theme “Rural Tourism Revisited” in Tartu, Estonia and will take place on 24th June–1st July 2012.

The 10th Summer Academy , was organised by the Euracademy Association in cooperation with the University of Valencia, , on the theme of “Local Governance and  Sustainable Rural Development” in Gandia, Spain and took place place on 27th August – 4th September 2011. The Academy brought together 32 people from 12 European countries.

The 9th Summer Academy , was organised by the Euracademy Association in cooperation with the University of Oulu, Lönnrot Institute and LAG Living Kainuu Leader, on the theme of “Social Innovation and Sustainable Rural  Development” in Karhulanvaara, Suomussalmi, Finland and took place on the 27th June – 4th July 2010. The Academy brought together 36 people from 9 European countries.

The 8th Summer Academy , organised by the Euracademy Association on the theme of “Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development: an integrated approach” in San Marco dei Cavoti, Benevento, Italy, was hosted by the CNR-IBIMET and Fondazione LEE IACOCCA. The Academy brought together 40 people from 12 European countries.

The 7th Summer Academy , organised by the Euracademy Association, on the theme “Sustainable 2020 for Rural Environment in Europe”, took place between 16-24 August 2008 in Elimje, Slovenia. The Academy brought together 40 people from 8 different European countries,including ex-particpants to Summer Academies and members of Euracademy Association.

The 6th Summer Academy , organised by the Euracademy Association, on the theme “Culture and Sustainable Rural Development” took place in Chania, island of Crete, Greece between 17th – 26th August 2007 at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania. The Academy brought together 60 people from 17 different European countries, including ex-participants to Summer Academies and other members of the Euracademy Association. 

The 5th Summer Academy , organised by the Euracademy Association, on the theme “The role of education and lifelong learning in Sustainable Rural Development” took place in GYOR, Hungary, between 1st – 8th July 2006, hosted by the West-Hungarian Research Institute Centre for Regional, Studies of Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The Academy brought together about 50 people from 12 European countries, including many ex-participants to Summer Academies and other members of the Euracademy Association.

The 4th Summer Academy , organised by the Euracademy Association, on the theme “Social Capital and Sustainable Rural Development” took place in Ilmajoki, Finland between 3-12 June 2005, hosted by the Ruralia Institute of the University of Helsinki and sponsored by the Finish Ministry of Agriculture. The Academy brought together about 50 people from 12 European countries, including many ex-participants to Summer Academies and other members of the Euracademy Association. 

The 3rd Summer Academy , organised by the Euracademy Association, on the theme “Diversification of Rural Economies and Sustainable Rural Development in the Enlarged Europe” was held in Przysiek between the 16th and 25th of July 2004, hosted by the Nicolaus Copernicus University. The Academy brought together about 40 people, including many ex-participants to Summer Academies and other members of the Euracademy Association.

The 2nd Summer Academy on the theme “Information Society and Sustainable Rural Development” was held in Ioannina, Greece, on 12th–21st July 2003. The Academy brought together about 60 people from 17 European countries, who for 10 days have learned, enjoyed and exchanged ideas and experiences. 

The 1st Summer Academy on the theme “Developing Sustainable Rural Tourism” was held in Gotland, Sweden, on 10th-21st August 2002. The Academy brought together about 60 people from 19 European countries, who for 12 days have learned, enjoyed and exchanged ideas and experiences.
